“Best” for an entry policy means three things in this order: it is accepted at the border of the Republic of Georgia without questions, it pays without a deductible when you actually see a doctor, and it costs the least for your dates. The shortlist below ranks five sellers of the Decree 602 policy on exactly those criteria, using the same figures and the same check date as our full comparison table.

I was worried the insurance would not be accepted. No need — it is an official policy from the Georgian insurer IRAO, just issued through 100doc. Border control had no questions.

Frequently asked questions

Questions and answers

Who is required to have tourist insurance when entering Georgia?

From January 1, 2026, insurance is mandatory for all foreign citizens entering Georgia under Georgian Government Resolution No. 602 of 26.12.2025.

Can I buy travel insurance if I am already in Georgia?

Yes. You can take out the policy while you are already in Georgia — your citizenship and where you buy it make no difference. The start date can be today: cover begins on the date you choose and the policy arrives by email within a minute of payment.

What does the IRAO Visitor Insurance policy cover?

The policy covers emergency medical expenses during your trip — from food poisoning to injuries. Light and Standard tariffs provide €10,000 in coverage, Premium — €15,000. For policyholders over 65, expense reimbursement is 50% under IRAO's terms. There is no deductible on any plan — expenses are reimbursed without a co-payment.

What language will my insurance policy be in?

The official IRAO policy is issued in English or Georgian regardless of the language you used to apply — this is a requirement of the IRAO insurer, not something 100doc.ge controls.

How quickly will I receive the policy after payment?

After payment, the policy is sent to the email address you provided when signing up.

What payment methods are available?

Payment is accepted by bank card, Apple Pay, or Google Pay.

Can I get a refund if my trip is cancelled?

Refunds of the insurance premium are governed by IRAO's insurance rules: the statutory right to withdraw from a contract without giving a reason generally does not apply to policies of 14 days or less. The service fee for issuing the policy is non-refundable, since the service is rendered in full at the moment the policy is issued. Full terms are set out in the Refund Policy.

Do I need to print the policy?

No, the policy can be shown at the border either electronically (on your phone) or printed.

What's the difference between the Light, Standard, and Premium tariffs?

Light and Standard provide the same €10,000 insurance coverage — Standard additionally includes priority support via Telegram and WhatsApp. Premium provides increased coverage of €15,000.

Where can I buy tourist insurance for entry to Georgia online?

You can buy the policy right here on 100doc.ge: IRAO Visitor Insurance (Vienna Insurance Group) from €0.99 per day, with coverage up to €15,000. No registration is required — the policy arrives by email about a minute after payment by bank card, Apple Pay or Google Pay.

How much does insurance for a trip to Georgia cost?

From €0.99 per day on the Light plan, €1.99 on Standard and €2.99 on Premium. Coverage is €10,000 on Light and Standard and €15,000 on Premium. A 7-day trip starts at €6.93 and a 30-day trip at €29.70 per person.

Does this policy meet the mandatory insurance requirement for entry?

Yes. The requirement is set by Georgian Government Resolution No. 602 of 26 December 2025: from 1 January 2026 foreign nationals entering Georgia must hold health insurance with at least the prescribed minimum sum insured. The policy is issued by IRAO, a licensed Georgian insurance company that is part of Vienna Insurance Group; its sum insured and risks meet the Resolution, with no deductible. The policy is issued in Georgian and English — the form border officers expect.

How much does insurance for Georgia cost for 7, 14, 30 or 90 days?

Per person: Light — €6.93 for 7 days, €13.86 for 14, €29.70 for 30, €89.10 for 90 days; Standard — €13.93 / €27.86 / €59.70 / €179.10; Premium — €20.93 / €41.86 / €89.70 / €269.10. Priced per day (from €0.99), children pay the same, no deductible.

The short version

Best travel insurance for Georgia is the policy that meets Decree 602 — at least 30,000 GEL of cover, Georgian or English wording — at the lowest real cost: the 7-day price plus whatever a deductible would take from you at the clinic. On those terms 100doc.ge ranks first with an IRAO policy from €0.99 a day, €6.93 for 7 days, no deductible on any plan and a 4.97 Google rating; Ardi and TBC Insurance follow, both with a deductible.

How we rank: border, clinic, price — in that order

A policy that fails at the border is worthless whatever it costs, so the first filter is compliance with Decree 602: 30,000 GEL of cover stated in lari, Georgian or English wording, dates that span the stay. Every seller in the shortlist passes it. The second filter is what happens in a clinic: a deductible means the first €50–150 of any visit is yours, and for a short trip that is often the entire bill. Only then does the daily price matter, and only for sellers that cleared the first two.

Why the deductible decides more than the daily price

Take a real case: food poisoning on day three, one doctor visit and medication, a €70 bill. With a 150 GEL deductible the insurer reimburses nothing — the whole €70 is under the threshold, and the “cheap” policy has cost you its premium plus €70. With no deductible the €70 is reimbursed in full. The difference between a €6.93 policy without a deductible and a €4.60 policy with one is €2.33 in premium and €70 in the clinic; that is why rank two goes to the cheapest seller with a deductible, not above ours.

Insurer’s own site or a broker — what changes and what does not

The document is the same insurer’s policy whichever counter sells it, so the border does not care. What differs is everything around it: whether the form is in your language, whether a passport can be photographed instead of typed, whether the PDF arrives in a minute or after office hours, and which payment methods are accepted. A local insurer’s site is often in Georgian with support from nine to six; a broker built for visitors issues the same policy in nine languages around the clock. Rank the seller on that service, not on the logo.

Which plan is best within the IRAO policy

Light is the Decree 602 minimum — 30,000 GEL, no deductible — and for a healthy adult on a short trip it is enough. Standard adds round-the-clock support in your language and is the plan most families pick for a week or two. Premium raises the sum insured to €15,000 for longer stays or for travellers who want more headroom than the legal minimum. For policyholders over 65 expense reimbursement is 50 % under IRAO’s terms on every plan, so the older the traveller, the more a higher sum insured matters.

If your child gets sick

A policy is issued from birth and children cost no extra. We settle with the clinic directly — you do not have to find the money on the spot:

  • high fever, respiratory infections, tonsillitis, ear infection, bronchitis
  • rotavirus, intestinal infections and food poisoning
  • falls, bruises and fractures — on the playground, in the mountains, at the sea
  • animal and insect bites — emergency rabies and tetanus vaccination
  • acute allergic reaction and heatstroke

The 24/7 support line points you to the nearest children’s clinic and calls an ambulance.

What is the best travel insurance for Georgia in 2026?

By the three criteria that matter — acceptance under Decree 602, no deductible at the clinic, lowest 7-day price — the IRAO policy through 100doc.ge ranks first in our shortlist: €6.93 for 7 days, no deductible on any plan, 4.97 on Google.

Is the cheapest policy also the best one?

Only if it has no deductible. A policy that is €2 cheaper per week but leaves the first 150 GEL of every claim to you is more expensive after a single doctor visit. Compare the deductible line before the daily price.

Which plan is best for a short trip?

Light: it meets the 30,000 GEL minimum of Decree 602 with no deductible and costs from €0.99 a day. For a week in Tbilisi and Batumi that is €6.93 per person.

We are a family of four going for 10 days — which plan is best for us?

Standard is the usual choice for families: round-the-clock support and the same 30,000 GEL cover for each of the four people, children at the adult price. Four people for 10 days on Light would be €39.60; Standard costs more per day but answers at 3 a.m.

I am 68 — is the best plan different for me?

The plans are the same, but under IRAO’s terms expense reimbursement for policyholders over 65 is 50 %, so the sum insured matters more: Premium with €15,000 leaves more room than the 30,000 GEL minimum of Light.

I am coming by car from Armenia for 3 days — do I need the best plan or the cheapest?

For 3 days the cheapest compliant plan is Light at €2.97 per person, and it is also the best one by our criteria because it has no deductible. Buy it before Sadakhlo; the officer checks the dates and the sum insured, not the plan name.

Does the best policy need to be bought before I fly?

No. It must exist before you reach passport control, not before you board. Many travellers buy it in the arrivals queue from a phone; the PDF arrives by email within a minute and is verified through the register by passport number.

How did you choose the five sellers in the shortlist?

They are the sellers from our full comparison table with the lowest real cost — 7-day price plus deductible — checked on the date shown in the caption. No new prices were collected for the shortlist; the figures are identical to the comparison.

Is a policy from the insurer’s own website better than one from a broker?

The policy is identical; the insurer issues it either way. The difference is the language of the form, the speed of delivery, the payment methods and who answers at night. Choose the seller by service, since the document is the same.

My employer offers travel insurance — is it better than a Georgian policy?

Check three lines in it: sum insured in lari at or above 30,000 GEL, wording in Georgian or English, and dates covering the whole stay. Corporate policies are usually in another language and another currency, so most travellers still need a Decree 602 policy alongside it.

Information updated: September 2026. Terms and sums insured are shown in the plan description at checkout.
